What's up with all the dark, brooding car pictures, you ask?

Last weekend I was at the Antique Auto Museum of America Museum. For those of you that know me, I'm kind of a car fan girl. In fact, I did what one of my friends would call "flaily hands" when I walked in to the main showroom. Sure, I've splooged you all with nature shots and whatnot, but I have a soft spot for cars. In fact, I've spent the whole of my professional career in the automotive industry.

I am also bored.

So, I decided for something different for this last shoot. Sure, I could have taken a bunch of perfect photos of these great cars. I wanted to have fun.

When I walked in and saw the cars from the 30's and 40's, I went right to film noir. I wanted something dark, moody, gritty and imperfect.

So there you are.

I had fun. :)

Well that is nothing to be ashamed of!

I must admit, I don't really take much interest in motor vehicles, I prefer bicycles :D. However, it's becoming more and more apparent that I will need to drive in the future and I plan on taking driving lessons over one summer during university. Unfortunately, all new cars seem ugly in comparison :(.

I see a fair amount of classic cars around here, but more so classic bikes. Presumably a mixture of rich car enthusiasts with holiday homes here, and 50 year old men reliving their youth by buying a classic bike and riding around in mild mannered biking gangs :lol:. My dad used to have a Norton, but now has a Royal Enfield, much cooler than the modern Japanese 'racing' bikes.

You have some neat cars over there! But, while the newer cars aren't as pretty as the old ones, the old ones aren't as safe as the new ones.

I'm going to find some video of a crash test from last month that I found...

Well, we used to make some cool cars and there are people with cool cars. As far as I'm aware the cars here now are much like those everywhere else except with the driving seat on the wrong side and not so wide that they take up two lanes each :D.

I'm sure it's better to look silly and life than it is too look cool and die in a car crash. That's why I where a cycle helmet!

The funny thing is the new car did just fine- the occupant would have had a slight knee injury. The occupant of the old car would have died instantly!

The way the passenger compartment collapsed just boggles my mind when you take into account that the new car didn't budge.

Yeah, unfortunately I think the car industry is becoming like the toothpaste industry in the way they advertise, a load of meaningless statistics and things which sound impressive unless you understand what they mean.

I just want them to give up on hydrocarbon fuels already and get investing in electric.
